· 'Abdullaah ibn 'Umar ibn Al-Khattaab, may Allah be pleased with them both:
He embraced Islam around the age of seven, along with his father ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattaab, may Allah be pleased with them both. This was in the sixth year of the Prophetic mission. He emigrated to Madeenah before his father, and was brought up in a pious house. He, may Allah be pleased with him, loved fighting ever since he was a child and tried to participate in one of the battles with the Prophet, but he was not allowed to, due to his youth.
The first battle in which he fought with the Prophet, , was the Battle of the Trench. He also participated in the Battle of Mu'tah, the Battle of Yarmook and the conquest of Egypt.
Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, was known for his strict adherence to the Sunnah (tradition) of the Prophet, . He narrated many Hadeeths (Prophetic narrations) and was one of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, who narrated the most Hadeeths. He died in 73 A.H.
· 'Abdullaah ibn 'Abbaas, may Allah be pleased with him:
He was a cousin of the Prophet, . He was born in Makkah three years before the Hijrah (emigration to Madeenah). He emigrated to Madeenah along with his father before the conquest of Makkah in 8 A.H. He accompanied the Prophet, , for two and a half years and narrated many Hadeeths.
Among these Hadeeths is the following famous one, in which he, may Allah be pleased with him, says, "One day I was riding behind the Prophet when he said: ‘O young boy! I wish to instruct you with some words. Adhere to (the orders of Allah) and safeguard His commandments, Allah will be watchful over you. Safeguard His rights and He will ever be with you. When you beg; beg of Him alone; and if you need assistance; supplicate Allah alone for help. Remember that if all the people desire to benefit you, they will be unable to bestow anything upon you except that which Allah has preordained (for you) and if all of them united to do you harm, they will not be able to afflict you with anything except that which Allah has predestined for you.’”[At-Tirmithi]
Since his childhood, Ibn `Abbaas, may Allah be pleased with him, was zealous in his pursuit of knowledge. His intelligence and good manners attracted people's attention to him. The Prophet, , once invoked Allah The Almighty to endow him with religious knowledge and understanding.
Ibn 'Abbaas, may Allah be pleased with him, was thirteen when the Prophet, , passed away. He started a long journey to acquire religious knowledge and jurisprudence at the hands of the senior Companions, may Allah be pleased with them. He became a great scholar at a young age. 'Umar ibn Al-Khattaab, may Allah be pleased with him, used to invite him to attend his meetings with the prominent Companions and to consult him in problematic issues. Ibn 'Abbaas, may Allah be pleased with him, was also known as "Grand Scholar of the Nation", and "Interpreter of the Quran".
He, may Allah be pleased with him, died in Taa'if in 68 A.H. at the age of seventy one.
· Zayd ibn Thaabit, may Allah be pleased with him:
He, may Allah be pleased with him, embraced Islam at the age of eleven, when the Prophet, , migrated from Makkah to Madeenah. He wanted to participate in the Battles of Badr and Uhud, but the Prophet, , refused because he was too young. The first battle in which he fought was the Battle of the Trench.
He, may Allah be pleased with him, accompanied the Prophet, , ever since he arrived in Madeenah. His family brought him to the Prophet, , and said, “This boy has memorized seventeen chapters of the Quran.” When he recited the Quran to him, the Prophet, , expressed his admiration.
Zayd, may Allah pleased with him, learnt Syriac, which was the written language of the Jews in Madeenah, and he wrote the letters of the Prophet, , to them in this language. He would also write down the Quran as it was revealed to the Prophet, .
When the Prophet, , died, Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq, may Allah be pleased with him, commanded Zayd, may Allah be pleased with them, to compile the Quran into one book. This was a very difficult task, but Zayd, may Allah be pleased with him, succeeded in compiling the Quran in one book, which we still recite today.
He, may Allah be pleased with him, died in 45 A.H.
