5. Khaalid ibn Al-Waleed, may Allah be pleased with him:
His name is Abu Sulaymaan Al-Makhzoomi, and he is the nephew of Maymoonah bint Al-Haarith, the Mother of the Believers. He is known as the Sword of Allah and His Messenger. He accepted Islam after Hudaybiyah, witnessed Mu'tah, and was given the leadership at the time of the Prophet . He led the army in Mu'tah after the martyrdom of the three appointed leaders. He also led a platoon of thirty horsemen to destroy the idol of Al-Uzza after the conquest of Makkah. After the death of the Prophet, , he fought against the apostates and Musaylimah, and conquered Iraq. He witnessed the battles in Shaam, and hiscommendable acts are many. Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, appointed him as the general leader of all armies. He blockaded Damascus and conquered it with Abu 'Ubaydah, may Allah be pleased with him. He lived up to sixty years, and died in Hims, in the year 21 A.H.
6. Mus'ab ibn 'Umayr, may Allah be pleased with him:
The Prophet, , appointed him as the general commander during the Battle of Badr. We have spoken about his biography in detail when we discussed the ministers of the Prophet, .
7. Zayd ibn Haarithah, may Allah be pleased with him:
The Prophet, , dispatched him at the head of a platoon with the definite task of intercepting a caravan belonging to the Quraysh that was led by Safwaan ibn Umayyah. They managed to take hold of the caravan, and Safwaan and his guards fled away without showing the least resistance. He was also among the leaders of the Battle of Mu'tah during which he was martyred.
8. Abu Salamah Al-Makhzoomi, may Allah be pleased with him:
He was the head of a platoon directed to Bani Asad after the Battle of Uhud, exactly in Muharram, 4 A.H.
His name is 'Abdullaah ibn 'abd Al-Asad, and his mother is Burrah bint 'Abd Al-Muttalib. Thus, he was the cousin of the Prophet, . He embraced Islam during its early stages, and emigrated to Habashah with his wife. He returned afterwards and emigrated to Madeenah. He witnessed the Battle of Badr, and the Battle of Uhud in which he was wounded, but he recovered soon. The Prophet, , dispatched him at the head of a platoon to Bani Asad when he received news about their intention and gathering to raid Madeenah. He, may Allah be pleased with him, attacked them, upon which they dispersed. When he returned to Madeenah, the wound that afflicted him during the Battle of Uhud opened, whereupon he died.
His murderer was Tulayhah Al-Asadi who apostatized, but later embraced Islam again and returned to the sound religion.
