I performed Istikhaarah (the guidance-seeking prayer) about traveling with my children to where my husband is. Then I slept and had a bad vision that made me quite apprehensive about my husband and children. I decided not to travel but my husband insisted and we did. Now, I live in fear and anxiety because of the vision. Please advise.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
Dreams and visions cannot be the basis for major religious or worldly decisions and should not be acted upon. Since your husband wanted you to travel you should have obeyed him. Pay no heed to such dreams.
Abu Qataadah narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, stated that a good vision is from Allaah The Almighty and a bad vision is from Satan. [Muslim]
Since such hateful dreams are from him, then you must rely on your Lord, have firm belief in His fate and obey the requests of your husband.
The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, directed us to treatment that will protect us from the evil of satanic visions. He said that when a person sees a bad vision they should blow to their left and seek refuge with Allaah The Almighty from the accursed Satan. By doing so the person will not be harmed by it. Also, the person should not recount it to anyone. [Muslim]
And Allaah Knows best.
