Praying in the Rawdhah in the Prophet's mosque

Question

what is the reward for praying 2 rakahs in riyadhul jannah (madinah) near our prophet's and sahabah's grave ?
is it correct to say "dhiyarah mubarak" to our people who visit madinah-here "dhiyarah"is visiting prophet's grave and praying 2 rakahs near grave .

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is confirmed in an authentic narration that the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "A prayer in my mosque (i.e. the Prophet’s mosque in Madeenah) is better than one thousand prayers in other mosques except Al-Haraam mosque (in Makkah)." Moreover, the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) said about the Rawdhah: “Between my house and my pulpit, there is a garden from the gardens of Paradise." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] The Rawdhah is part of the Prophet’s mosque, and the prayer in it equals in reward 1,000 prayers. However, there is no doubt that the Rawdhah is of more excellence because the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) distinguished it and did not distinguish any other parts of the mosque for being a garden from the gardens of Paradise. Nevertheless, we are not aware of any narration that states that there is more reward in praying in it [Rawdhah] than in praying in any other parts of the mosque.

As regards saying “Ziyaarah Mubaarakah” (blessed visit) for whoever visits the Madeenah, then we are not aware from the Sunnah that it is permissible to say so, or to congratulate someone on the occasion of performing an act of worship. However, if it is said as a supplication without believing that it is desirable to say so, and without saying this on a regular basis, then we hope that this is permissible.

On the other hand, it should be noted that visiting the grave of the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) is permissible for whoever passes by it or is at the Prophet’s mosque, or arrives to Madeenah. However, it is not permissible to travel just to visit the grave of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, because it is not permissible to travel to any place for the purpose of worship except to three mosques: Al-Haraam mosque (in Makkah), the Prophet’s mosque (in Madeenah) and Al-Aqsa mosque (in Jerusalem).

Subsequently, travelling to visit the Prophet’s grave or the graves of other Prophet’s or pious people is an innovation which no companion or the Tabi’een (the successors of the companions  may  Allaah  be  pleased  with  them) had done, and the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) did not order us to visit his grave. Therefore, doing this is contrary to the Sunnah.
