Asslamu Alaykum.
I know the alot about the signs of judgement day. But I have a strange feeling that the major signs are coming closer and closer. Im talking about less than twenty years. Because according to my knowledge I think all of the minor signs have passed if I am incorrect please explain why. I also have another strange feeling that my time is close to its end and I was wondering is that bad for me to think when will I die? The questions I have for you is am I right that all the minor signs have passed? Also is it bad for me to think that my time is soon?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
There is no doubt that many minor signs of the Hour have already appeared, however, there are still some minor signs of the Hour that have not yet taken place, like the Arabic peninsula becoming gardens and rivers, the enlargement of the crescents (i.e. the crescent will be so big that people will see it after one day and will say it is two days old), that beasts and inanimate things will talk to humans and the Euphrates (river) will uncover a mountain of gold.
As regards the major signs of the Hour, they are near because every coming thing is near.
Concerning your statement that the major signs will be in ‘…less than twenty years…’ then this is not correct and it is not permissible to determine this with a period of time. Allaah Says (what means): {And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him.}[Quran 6:59] Allaah also Says (what means): {Say, “None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allaah, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected.”}[Quran 27:65]
On the other hand, it is predominantly thought that the last days of this world are still far because there are some afflictions that have not yet taken place and there is still much good in this world; indeed, we have already clarified this in Fataawa 87777, 82413 and 87863.
With regard to feeling that the moment of death is near, then this feeling may be praiseworthy and it may be dispraised: If this feeling incites the person to endeavour to do good deeds that will benefit him when he meets his Lord, then this is a praiseworthy matter for him and it is very beneficial. Contrarily, if this feeling is a reason for his sadness and being lazy about performing what benefits him and that he will neglect his interests and not rectify his Hereafter, then this is dispraised and harmful.
Similarly, fearing death is of two kinds: The first kind is natural and this is not dispraised because this happens out of a person’s control. The second kind is dispraised, which is Al-Wahn that is mentioned in a Prophetic narration in a way that a person is keen to stay in this worldly life taking pleasure of its desires and pleasures while being neglectful about the Hereafter and all the matters that are related to it.
Finally, it should be noted that the moment of death of a person is unknown; this is a matter of the unseen which only Allaah Alone Knows, as Allaah Says (what means): {Indeed, Allaah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allaah is Knowing and Acquainted.}[Quran 31:34]
Allaah Knows best.
