Reward for performing Hajj on behalf of someone

Question

What is the reward for the one who performs Hajj on behalf of others in return for a sum of money?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

If one performs Hajj on someone’s behalf taking only the amount of money needed for the expenses of Hajj, then he is rewarded, Allah willing, because he is helping another person to fulfill an obligation. This is in addition of obtaining the reward of the other deeds that he performs in Hajj, like performing prayer in Al-Masjid Al-Haraam, reciting thikr (remembrance of Allah), and other acts. Scholars call the person who undertakes this task a proxy or a deputy pilgrim. Concerning taking a fixed sum of money as a fee for Hajj, some scholars maintain that this action is impermissible, while others hold that it is permissible. Anyway, it is better to avoid it.

Allah Knows best.
