Can we do a prayer (sunna/faradh) in a house where a woman is in a menstruation period or bleeding?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible to perform the prayer in a place where there is a menstruating woman; and the place does not become impure just because of the presence of a menstruating woman. ‘Aa’ishah said: “The Prophet rested on my lap and recited the Quran while I was in menses.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Avoiding the place where there is a menstruating woman is from the habits of the Jews, and the Prophet has commanded us to be different from them. Anas narrated that when one of the women of the Jews menstruated, the Jews would not eat with her or sit with her in their homes. The Companions of the Prophet asked him about this, and then Allaah revealed the verse (which means): {And they ask you about menstruation. Say, “It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allaah has ordained for you. Indeed, Allaah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves.”} [Quran 2:222] So the Prophet said: “Do everything except for intercourse.” When his words reached the Jews, they said: “This man [i.e. Prophet] does not leave anything we do without opposing us in it!’” [Muslim]
Abu Daawood reported the Hadeeth with the wording: “When a woman of the Jews had menses, they would take her out of the house....”
