Supplication to be said upon leaving a gathering

Question

Assalamu alikum a scholar from India said there is a hadith which states after adhaan whoever recite the following prayer (other than the famous prayer for prophet peace be upon him) (Subhanakallahumma wa bi hamdika ashhadu Allah ilaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaik) the angels will tie a bundle of good deeds for that person. Basically on the day of judgement he will get a bundle of good deeds for every time he read dis dua. but the scholar did not provide any reference but he said it is authentic. is there any hadith like this?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

It is known that this supplication is the (reported) supplication recited at the conclusion of a meeting or gathering. Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him reported that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Whoever sits in a gathering in which their was much clamour and says before getting up, ‘Subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bihamdika, Ash-hadu allaa ilaaha illaa anta, astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilayk (O Allaah, You are free from every imperfection; praise be to You. I testify that there is none truly worthy of worship except You; I ask Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance),’ he will be forgiven for the sins he has committed in that assembly." [Ahmad and At-Tirmithi]

Shaykh Ibn Baaz may Allaah have mercy upon him commented on this supplication, “If such a gathering involves idle talk and the like, this supplication would atone for it; and if it is a meeting of righteousness, it [the gathering] will be sealed with mercy of Allaah.” [Majmoo‘ Al-Fataawa]

In fact, An-Nasaa’i may Allaah have mercy upon him cited a version of this very Hadeeth in his book ‘Amal Al-Yawm wa-l Laylah to the same effect of Ibn Baaz’s statement. This supplication has been reported among the supplications recited after performing Wudhoo’ (ablution). Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudri may Allaah be pleased with him reported that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Whoever performs Wudhoo’ then says upon finishing, ‘Subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bihamdik, Ash-hadu allaa ilaaha illaa ant, Astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilayk,’ Allaah will seal it with a seal and it will be raised to the heaven below the Throne, and it will not be opened until the Day of Resurrection.” [An-Nasaa’i]

As for reciting this supplication after the Athaan (call to prayer), as mentioned in the question, we could not find any report to that effect in the approved extensive Hadeeth literature available to us.

Allaah Knows best.
