What is the ruling of the room of the Imaam in the mosque? Can one buy and sell in it?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
If the room of the Imaam is independent, then it takes the same ruling as a house and not the mosque. This is because the rooms of the Mothers of the Believers and those of the Companions all, were in the vicinity of and even attached to the mosque and, in spite of this fact, they used to practice normal permissible things as well as experience Janaabah (i.e. the state of a person after having intercourse or ejaculating semen) and menstruation in them.
Accordingly, the room of the Imaam does not come under the same ruling as the mosque and thus, buying, selling and other permissible deeds are allowed. However, it is better to avoid performing deeds that do not befit the sanctity of the mosque in them and they should not be taken as places for routinely selling and dealing.
