About how long is a good supplication between the azan and the Iqaamah (second, small call to prayer)? And would the Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, supplicate between the azan and the Iqaamah of every prayer? Please answer my exact question.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The time between the Athaan and Iqaamah is one of the best times in which supplications are answered; so a Muslim should make use of this time in supplicating Allaah, mentioning Him, and seeking His forgiveness... It is confirmed that the Prophet said, "The supplication between the Athaan and the Iqaamah is not rejected." [Abu Dawood and at-Tirmithi - Al-Albaani graded it Saheeh (sound)]
There is no specific interval of time or a specific time for this, and we have not come across texts suggesting that the Prophet would supplicate before every prayer between the Athaan and Iqaamah; however, it is confirmed that he used to teach his Companions what to say when the Athaan is called and what to say after it. The Prophet said, “When you hear the Mu'aththin, you should repeat what he says and then send peace upon me, for whoever sends peace upon me once, Allaah will send peace upon him ten times. Then ask Allaah to grant me Al-Waseelah by saying, 'Allhumma rabba haathihi ad-da'wati-taammati was-salat-il-qaa'imah aati Muhammadan Al-Waseelata wa Al-Fadheelata wab'athh-ullaahumma al-maqaam al-mahmoud allathy wa'aadtah.'” (O Allaah, Lord of this perfect call and established prayer, grant Muhammad the privilege (of interceding) and the eminence, and raise him to the honored station that You have promised him.) They said, “O Messenger of Allaah, what is Al-Waseelah?” He said, “It is the highest level in Paradise, and only one man will be granted it.” In another narration, he said, “A level in Paradise that will be granted to only one of Allaah’s slaves, and I hope that it will be me. So whoever asks Allaah to grant me Al-Waseelah, he will be eligible for my intercession on the Day of Resurrection.” [Muslim]
