Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu. Does Islam ban humans from making artificial organs? It is impossible for humans to make better organs than Allaah, right? Please provide references.
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Making artificial organs to compensate for the loss of natural organs is permissible.
The evidence for this is the hadeeth of ‘Arfajah ibn Sa’d: he had his nose cut on the day of Kulaab (a battle which took place in the pre-Islamic Era of Ignorance), so he took a nose made of silver and attached it, and his nose started to stink. So the Prophet ordered him to replace it with a nose made of gold. [Abu Daawood - Al-Albaani classified it as hasan (good)] For more benefit, please refer to fatwa 87794.
As regards the fact that humans cannot make something better than Allah’s Creation, then no believer would doubt this in the first place, but this does not necessitate the prohibition of making artificial organs.
Allah knows best.
