What is the religious ruling on reciting the same Soorahs in every Friday prayer or any other prayer?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
There is no harm in repeating the same Soorahs and verses in the Friday prayers as long as one does not believe that such an act is considered an act of the Sunnah or an obligation. Such a practice can be an act of the Sunnah if the worshipper recites the same Soorahs that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to recite in the Friday prayers. He, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to recite Al-Ghaashiyah (chapter No. 88) and Al-A‘la (chapter No. 87) and, at other times he, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to recite Al-Jumu‘ah (chapter No. 62) and Al-Munaafiqoon (chapter No. 63).
What applies to the Friday prayer applies to other prayers in this regard. The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to recite As-Sajdah (chapter No. 32) and Al-Insaan (chapter No. 76) in the Fajr prayer on Fridays. Abu Hurayrah said, "The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to recite the following Soorahs in the Fajr prayer on Fridays, 'Alif, Laam, Meem, Tanzeel' and 'Hal Ata ‘Ala Al-Insaan' (i.e. As-Sajdah or chapter No. 32) and Al-Insaan or chapter No. 76)." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Another version of the same narration was cited in Saheeh Muslim that reads, "The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to recite Al-Jumu‘ah (chapter No. 62) and Al-Munaafiqoon (chapter No. 63) in the Friday prayer." [Muslim]
An-Nu‘maan ibn Basheer said, "The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to recite, on Fridays and the two (days of) ‘Eed, the chapters of Al-A‘la (chapter No. 87) and Al-Ghaashiyah (chapter No. 88)." [Muslim]
We would like to point out that it is not preferable to do something persistently or regularly if the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, did not do so.
