Question
Salaamualaikum, I have a possible job offer that I am worried about. Working as an electrician in a factory that bottles wine .I was told I will working in the offices and may be asked to help fix the machines in the factory. Is the permissible or will I incur sin ?Jazak Allah khair
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His Slave and Messenger.
If you mean that this factory is specifically dedicated to bottling wine, then it is not permissible for you to work in this factory, even if most of your work is in the office and only a small part of it involves repairing the machines used for bottling wine.
Allah, The Exalted, has severely prohibited alcohol, and He cursed ten categories of people connected to it through the tongue of His Messenger (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Allah has cursed wine, the one who drinks it, the one who serves it, the one who squeezes it, the one for whom it is squeezed, the one who sells it, the one who buys it, the one who carries it, the one to whom it is carried, and the one who consumes the money earned from it.” [Ahmad]
Accordingly, it is not permissible for you to provide any service that involves assisting in the bottling of wine, because this falls under cooperation in sin, which Allah has prohibited in His statement (what means): {And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and transgression.} [Quran 5: 2]
