Question
Is it permissible to have surgery to remove scars from one's face?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
There is no harm - Insha Allah - in removing scars that deforms one's face provided that removing them does not cause harm to one's body. The reason for this permissibility is that removing such scars is not considered as changing the creation of Allah, rather it is a kind of treatment and to bring it to its original form which Allah created. The evidence for this permissibility is the Hadith reported by Imam Tirmizi that Arfajah Ibn Asa'd who had his nose cut off, so the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) ordered him to get a gold nose".
