Bridal showers and Islamic weddings

Question

I live in US and was wondering if bridal showers allowed as part of an Islamic wedding?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

There is no evidence in Shari'a that proves the bridal shower in a marriage ceremony. If it is done not intended as a form of worship, then it is allowed since there is a general principle in Usool al-Fiqh reads that basically the worldly matters are allowed as long as there is no evidence proving otherwise.
Know that if the bridal-shower is done in the imitation of Jews, Christians and those we are ordered to oppose then it is not allowed since the principle of Shari'a is to oppose them. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "The Jews and the Christians do not dye (their gray hair), so you should do the opposite of what they do" [Reported by Imam al-Bukhari ].
He said concerning polytheists: "Oppose the polytheists" [Reported by Imam al-Bukhari ].
Finally, if the above practice is free from imitation of non-Muslims, done without considering it as an act of worship, and also free from lavishness then it is permissible.
Allah knows best.
