Question
What is the ruling on male and female devils in the toilet if we don't recite the Du'a before entering the toilet can they harm anyone?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. It is proved from the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) that Whenever he enters a privy, he would say: In the name of Allah. O Allah! I seek refuge in you from male and female noxious beings (devils). [ al-Bukhari , Muslim and others] In a Hadith the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) stated the reason for seeking the refuge with Allah at that time and said, Toilets are the places where devils seek their abode. [ al-Tirmizi ] Seeking the refuge with Allah before entering such places, besides having devils in those places, indicate that they may harm human beings. So, one should ask refuge with Allah before entering the toilets. Allah knows best.
