Question:

Asalamualaikum..i have question about ghusl...
if once after ghusl obligatory bath..i found out something is preventing the water from reaching my hand skins...and i dont know whether it is there before i start my ghusl or after i made my ghusl..did i have to repat my entire ghusl or i only have to wash the part that the water does not reach the skin eg. only hand...another thing is i read in a website that ghusl is complete even it is done without intention(niat)..is it true?..for example if all out body is wash and wet with water without intention of ghusl..it is still complete...like our daily bath..if it makes entire body wet with water and we did not have the intention of ghusl..is the ghusl still complete or not?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

With regard to Ghusl (ritual bath) and the obstacle that prevents water from reaching the skin, then if you do not know whether this was present before performing Ghusl or after having performed Ghusl, and it is probable that it occurred after Ghusl, then you are not obliged to renew Ghusl, and its presence would be considered as if it happened in the most recent time. The jurists may Allaah have mercy upon them stated that if someone performs ablution and then finds something that prevents water from reaching the skin after having performed ablution, and it is probable that this could have occurred after having performed ablution, then it should be considered as if it happened after having performed ablution.

However, if there is any indication that proves that the obstacle that prevents water from reaching the skin existed before Ghusl, then what should be rewashed is the place that is not reached with water; for more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 118955 and 85909.

As regards the issue of performing Ghusl without the intention of removing ritual impurity, then whoever has a bath and did not intend to remove ritual impurity, then his bath is not valid as Ghusl, this means that he did not remove the ritual impurity because he did not have the intention to this effect, because the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Actions are indeed judged by intentions and every person will only get the recompense of what he intended.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Allaah Knows best.
