All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
The Quran can be used in treating illness by reciting Quranic verses either over the afflicted part of the body or into the hands and then one wipes over the afflicted part, or the whole body if it is an illness that affects the whole body.
This is supported by the Hadeeth where it is mentioned that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to recite Chapters 112-114 of the Quran every night before he went to sleep. He would then blow into his hands with a little saliva (just enough to make it moist) and wipe his face and all the parts of his body that his hands could reach. [Al-Bukhari]
Further evidence is the Hadeeth on the authority of ‘Uthmaan ibn Abu Al-‘Aas where the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered him to put his hand on the place where he felt the pain, and say, “Bismillaah (In the Name of Allaah)” three times and say seven times “A‘oothu billaahi wa qudratihi min sharri maa ajidu wa uhaathir (I seek refuge in the Might and Omnipotence of Allaah from the evil of what I feel and fear).” [Muslim]
