All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
If the credit cards meet the Islamic conditions for the permissibility of dealing with them, then it is permissible to buy with it and accept the discounts offered by the shops for the credit card holders even if the source of these discounts is banks; for more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 81447 and 84519.
In this regard, the resolution of the Islamic Fiqh Committee number 139 (5/15) reads: “It is not permissible for the institutions to offer credit card holders forbidden privileges like commercial insurance or entering forbidden places. As regards a privilege grant that is not forbidden, like the priority of receiving services or the discount in prices, then this is Islamically permissible.”
Moreover, the decision of the Sharee’ah supervisory board of Al-Bilad Bank (a Saudi Islamic Bank) reads: “It is permissible for the bank that issues the card to offer to its customers discounts, offers and privileges that are not forbidden in the Sharee’ah provided that the credit card holder does not pay any fee for the issuer of the card in return for this service and provided that the issuer of the card does not pay any fee to the global company.”
Allaah Knows best.
