Learning Vedic mathematics

Assalaamualaykum,
Some people claim the vedic mathematics to have been taken from hinduism. Is this claim true? Can I learn vedic mathematics?
It simplifies long and time consuming calculations.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

 

We are not exactly aware of what you called Vedic mathematics but what we can say here in general is that if this kind of mathematics is based on correct (scientific) foundations, then it is permissible to study it and benefit from it. Also, it is permissible for a Muslim to learn it.

However, if some falsehood is mixed with it, then it is not permissible to study it except for someone who has a deep religious knowledge in a way that he can distinguish between the truth and falsehood.
