Wearing a dress above knee with stockings

Question:

I bought a short dress that reaches above the knee and want to wear long stockings in order to cover the parts of the legs that are not covered by the dress. Is it permissible to wear this?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It is well known that stockings may be see-through or reveal the details of the body. So wearing stockings only is not considered a Sharee'ah-approved way of covering the body. Accordingly, you are forbidden to wear this dress, if it reveals your thighs to men other than your husband.
