A Da’wah group obliges people to attend its circle in the Masjid

Question:

Salaam alaikum shaikh, in our masjid everyday after Salah few persons (mostly related with Tablighi Jamaat) sit and read Muntakhab Ahadees or Fazail-e-Amaal (this latter book was criticized by Scholars in Saudi Arabia for having unusual stories based on Islam). Now sometimes if we discuss other Islamic matters in masjid (for Dawah etc.), they stop us from doing so and tell us to stick to Ijtima-e-Amal for it is better than other forms of ebaadah. Should we stick to their circles or can we make another form of worship at that moment. Jazaak ALLAHU Khair.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

You are not obliged by Islam to attend the circles of the brothers whom you mentioned in the question, and they should not pressure people to attend their circles. So, whoever attends a lecture or a lesson with them, then it is good for him, and whoever sits by himself to recite the Quran or do any other form of worship, it is good for him; and we hope that all of your deeds are good and righteous. What is disliked is bias for a certain group or obliging people to join it or attend its programs and consider the one who does not attend as being against Islam and its Sharee'ah and an enemy to the Da’wah, as this is dispraised.
