Criteria to judge contemporary sects and movements

Question:

Is there a Hadeeth in which the Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, mentioned that this Ummah (Muslim Nation) will be divided into seventy-three sects, and that all of them will enter Hell except one? Who is that sect? Is the Muslim Brotherhood one of them?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

We previously narrated this Hadeeth with its different wordings and outlined the saved sect and the criterion with which we can judge any sect or movement as being saved or doomed. Please refer to Fataawa 12682 and 10157.
