Feeling menstrual cramps does not affect fasting

14-2-2012 | IslamWeb

Question:

What is the ruling on a fasting woman who feels the usual menstrual cramps two hours or ten minutes before Maghrib prayer? Is her fasting for that day acceptable or should she make up for that fast-day?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam,  is His slave and Messenger.

If a woman experiences menstrual bleeding even a minute after sunset, then her fasting for that day is valid and she does not have to make up for that fast-day, even if she experienced the usual menstrual pain; for feeling menstrual cramps does not count, until she actually sees the blood.

Allaah Knows best.
