Question:

Assalamu alaykum, are such jokes/expressions shirk or kufr?1. If person a massages person b and the pain of person b disappears, then person b says to a: you have healing hands/or you have magical hands. Is there any problem with that?2. If a wife says jokingly to her husband: Look into my heart to see my love for you. Then the husband laughs and says: Yes, i see it. Is there any problem?Barakallahu fikum

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It seems, dear brother, that you are suffering from the illness of obsessive whispers. We ask Allaah to heal you from it. We advise you to repel these whispers and not get carried away with them or pay attention to them or ask about them ever again.

There is absolutely no Kufr or Shirk that takes a person out of the fold of Islam in the expressions which you mentioned without any doubt. However, there is a problem with the first statement even if it is said jokingly because it is Allaah Who heals as mentioned in the Hadeeth: "… heal; You are the Healer." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Therefore, describing the hand as healing or as being magic is not good. Although the person who provides treatment does act as a cause in the healing, it is proper when speaking not attribute it to the person but instead to Allaah.

Allaah Knows best.
