Helping parents watch TV

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu. Can I give the TV remote, setup the TV (or pack the TV when moving), or set up the satellite dish for my parents? They watch Islamic channels as well as normal channels. Please advise.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

In principle, what you mentioned is not forbidden unless you know that your parents will use the device to watch what is forbidden; in which case it becomes forbidden for you to help them in disobedience; Allah says (what means): {…but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.} [Quran 5:2]

Therefore, you should gently clarify the Islamic ruling to your parents, and you should kindly apologize to them for not doing so in a humble, polite, and soft manner.
