Working in IT risk assessment

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum. Is it halal to work in an "IT-risk" role for a company. This would involve monitoring and assessing IT projects to see if they are running on schedule, if there can be any problem anticipated or foreseen coming up, as well as checking IT systems in place and if there is any risk for errors or security lapses that may occur as well as advising managements of any such risks and possible corrective actions to minimize such risk from materializing. Does this fall under speculation, uncertainty, or anything that is not permissible? May Allah reward you.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The study of what is known as the theory of probability is one of the known branches of mathematics, and it is one of the foundations of statistics.

It has nothing to do with claiming knowledge of the Unseen or fortunetelling and the like. It is a pure mathematical science based on introductions, data, and mathematical laws.

The results that it offers are expectations based on scientific statistical principles. The same applies to similar expectations that are based on scientific grounds and apparent reasons or cosmic recurrent norms; so they are not a result of divination or fortunetelling.

So there is nothing wrong with it, and what you mentioned is similar to this, so there is no harm in working in it and it does not involve forbidden divination.

Allah knows best.
