All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
The scholars defined a Companion as someone who met the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, believed in him and died upon this state of faith. This means that in order for one to be a Companion, he must meet and see the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, during his lifetime and this never happened to anyone except his Companions .
The Muslim who sees the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, in a dream, however, has undoubtedly seen him, as stated in the Sunnah (Prophetic tradition), but he does not fall under the title of a Companion. The same applies to those who saw the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, in a dream during his lifetime and did not meet him.
Allaah Knows best.
