All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
‘Umrah is obligatory, according to the preferred opinion. This means that you are required to perform ‘Umrah whenever you are able to do so. Then, whenever you are able to perform Hajj during its months, you are required to do so as well. We advise the questioner to combine between Hajj and ‘Umrah by performing Tamattu’ Hajj. This means that you perform both Hajj and ‘Umrah in only one journey and one expenditure. Tamattu’ Hajj is the best of the Hajj types. This is because the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered his Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, to do it and told them that he would not have brought the hardy (offering the sacrificial animal for Qiraan Hajj) with him if he had formerly known what he came to know later and that he would have dedicated his first ihram (ritual consecration) for performing ‘Umrah and would have assumed a new ihram for Hajj on the eighth day of Thul-Hijjah.
Allah Knows best.
