Question:

Is it authentic to say part of the last aayah of surah tawba 7x in the morning and evening? And also is this authentic 3x in the morning and evening: Radhitu billaahi rabban, wa bil Islaamy deenan, wa bi Muhammadin salla Allaahu ‘alayhi was salaama nabiyyan?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Reciting the concluding verses of Soorat At-Tawbah [9: 128-129] every morning and evening, it was narrated in an inauthentic Hadeeth cited by Ibn Al-Jawzi may Allaah have mercy upon him in Al-Mawdhoo‘aat.

One sentence of this Thikr (expressions of remembrance of Allah), namely “Sufficient for me is Allah; there is nothing worthy of worship but Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne”, was narrated in another Hadeeth reported by Abu Daawood may Allaah have mercy upon him. It reads: “Whoever says seven times in the morning and evening: ‘Hasbiyallaahu la Ilaaha illa Huwa, ‘alayhi Tawakkaltu, wa Huwa Rabbul-‘Arshi Al-‘Atheem (Sufficient for me is Allah; there is nothing worthy of worship but Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne,’ Allah will be sufficient for him (protect and relief him) against anything which grieves him.” [Al-Albaani: inauthentic, Shu‘ayb Al-Arnaa’oot and ‘Abdul-Qaadir Al-Arnaa’oot: authentic]

As for the other Thikr, which reads, “Radheetu billaahi rabban, wa bil-Islaami deenan, wa bi Muhammadin salla Allaahu ‘alayhi was salaama nabiyyan (I am satisfied with Allah as (my) Lord, Islam as (my) religion, and Muhammad as (my) Prophet)”; whoever says it three times in the morning and three times in the evening Allah made it mandatory upon Himself to please him on the Day of Judgment. This Hadeeth was narrated by Ahmad, An-Nasaa’i in ‘Amal Al-Yawm wa Al-Laylah, Abu Daawood, At-Tirmithi, and Al-Albaani: inauthentic. Shu‘ayb Al-Arnaa’oot: Saheeh Lighayrih (authentic due to other corroborating reports).”

Allah Knows best.
