Ruling on Informal Relationship and Validity of Marriage

Question:

6 years ago (me 16), I met a boy from another country over the internet. We were in contact via text and audio calls for a long time. We never had video calls, nor have we ever met in person.We exchanged sex messages and pictures ( not nudes) and used to address each other as husband and wife.I have a vague memory—though I am not certain—of whether we ever said "Qabul when he is with 9-10 friends and I was alone in audio call or message is it nikah? Urgent reply plz my wedding is within 1 week

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad () is His Slave and Messenger.

Whatever occurred between you and him in addressing one another as husband and wife has no legal value in Islamic law, and no marital bond is established through that. Marriage has specific conditions without which it is not valid. Among the most important of these are a clear offer and acceptance, the permission of the guardian, and the presence of witnesses who attend the marriage contract.

Therefore, proceed with completing your marriage and do not pay attention to any doubts that may come to you.

However, you must repent from what occurred between you and this young man, such as the emotional relationship, inappropriate messages, and sending of images.
