Migrating from Algeria to UK to Study Medicine

23-7-2002 | IslamWeb

Question:

I am asking about the migration to the country of disbelief (Kufr). I am from Algeria and I have migrated to the UK to study medicine there. Is my situation legitimate, Halal, or Haram? Medicine in the UK is more developed than medicine in Algeria.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is forbidden to migrate to non-Muslim countries to live there, since such residence brings about and results in many forms of evil and corruption.

So, the inquirer can study medicine in some Muslim country in which there is an advanced college for medicine. If this is not available, then he can travel to Britain or another country to study provided that he believes he can remain steadfast on his faith and religion.

Also, he should be proud of his religion and make sure (Insha Allah) that he will not go after forbidden lusts, although we think that it is difficult for one to live free of misdeeds in such societies.
