Wiping the back of the neck during ablution

Question:

While making ablution do we not clean the neck and the back of the neck with the back of our fingers? I have seen my uncle doing this since my childhood. Kindly advise.

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

 

There is extremely weak or a fabricated Hadith that cannot be used as evidence that states wiping over (Maseh) the neck.

The majority of scholars are of the opinion that such a practice is not likable.  Many scholars even think that wiping over the neck is Bida’h (bad innovation).  This is the opinion of the Shafi’e.
