Reporting poor work performance of one's supervisor

Question:

I am working in a Christian Company which is very well known for printing services in the country. My boss and my immediate supervisor are Christians. Theyare very good and friendly with me. My manger always helps me in lot of ways. My boss has told me that if there is any malfunction in the administration or production to report to him. Now in the administration and production my immediate manager does many wrong things, such as to reach his monthly target he quotes low prices without costing the service. Often the company has to incur loss and because of this practice the monthly profit is very low. He says it is due to the lack of business. Whenever there is a problem he just passes the problem to his subordinate or the operators and he disappears; the poor people get the blame. There are many examples like this!
What I want to know is, can I tell my boss about this situation as I want to be loyal to my company and to the boss? Since he is very friendly and good to me I can’t identify myself. So if ‘yes’ to my first question, how can I tell this to my boss? Am I acting Islamicly? Is this backbiting?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

If the negligence and extravagance that you mentioned at work happen because of your direct supervisor, and if informing the director of the company will not cause you any harm, then there is no objection to your informing him, InshaAllah, as this is considered advice. This is not  backbiting as it is a matter on which the profit of the company depends.

Anyhow, we advice you to seek another job, if available, as this is more appropriate and better for your religion.

Allah knows best
