All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
In principle the parents are affectionate and merciful to their children. It is rare to find parents who hate their children. However, some children may think that they are hated by their parents, but the reality is otherwise. In principle, in this matter, it is the son who has to blame himself, instead of accusing both of his parents or one of them, especially the mother who generally has a natural disposition to be affectionate with the children. So we advise you first of all to take it easy. Many small matters could be considered as great matters, but in reality they are not. If your mother has something against you, try to find the reason behind that, it could be that you behaved in a specific manner and she misunderstood it. You have to be frank with her and be kind to her. You have to make every possible and permissible effort in order to please her. Your happiness in this life and the Hereafter is in doing so (i.e. pleasing her). In addition to this, do not forget to implore Allaah earnestly to enable you to please her, and seek the help of some people who can influence her, like your relatives, her female friends, and the people of knowledge.
Finally, we draw your attention to the following two matters:
Firstly, you have to be kind and dutiful to your mother even if she mistreats you.
Secondly, you are not sinful if your mother is not happy with you without any reason.
Allaah knows best.
