All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
If the marriage contract has been concluded with its requirements, then this woman has become your wife. You are therefore permitted to do with her what a husband does with his wife; you are allowed for instance to be alone with her, look at her, kiss her and the like. But you have to take into consideration the customs and traditions of your country as regards to consummating the marriage, or if there is an agreement for delaying the consummation of the marriage. Therefore, it becomes obvious that it is not correct for your mother to prevent you from being alone with her or touching her. Indeed it is permissible for you to kiss her and go out with her for dinner, etc., on the condition that the place is free from prohibitions and suspicion.
We should note, however, that if you were alone with her (in a room or house), then the ruling of consummating the marriage applies, in which case she is entitled the full dowry and she has to observe a waiting period (in case of divorce); this is the opinion of the majority of scholars. It should also be noted that it is not permissible to delay the consummation of marriage without a sound religious excuse. It is not obligatory to obey the mother in delaying marriage if you fear harm by doing so. But it is appropriate to convince her (your mother) before consummating the marriage.
Allaah Knows best.
