Question:

Please can you tell me about cursed language and cursed tribe? I heard some people saying cursed language and cursed tribe for a certain language and tribe. So I do not think this is fair to say. But can you tell me more about, if there are such things in Islamic principle or not?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

As far as we know, no language is cursed in the Quran or the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ). As regards tribes, it is confirmed that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) cursed some tribes which did not believe in Allaah and His Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ). Indeed, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: O Allaah! Curse the tribes of Beni Lahyaan, Ra’l and Thikwaan. An-Nawawi may Allaah have mercy upon him said: 'This is evidence that it is permissible to curse the non-Muslims in general or a group of them, but not a specific individual.' For more benefit, please refer to the ruling of cursing in Islam.

Allaah Knows best.
