All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
There is no basis for what some people do, like reading Al-Faatihah [Quran, chapter 1] in some occasions such as in marriage contract, or when concluding a gathering, or at the end of a marriage banquet and the like. It should be mentioned that acts of worship are only determined by text from the Book of Allaah or the Sunnah of the Prophet . We can only worship Allaah with what He legislated for us. It is not reported that the Prophet or his companions did so despite the great number of occasions in which they underwent. If there had been any good in it, they would have preceded us in doing it. Therefore, it is an obligation to leave these newly invented matters and stick to what is reported in the Sunnah, like supplicating for the person who donated food and mentioning the supplication that is mentioned when concluding a gathering.
Allaah Knows best.
