A woman traveled to perform Hajj and menstruated five days after her journey began. After reaching the Meeqaat (designated zone to don Ihraam), she performed Ghusl and assumed the state of Ihraam while she had not yet attained purity from menstruation. When she reached Makkah, she remained outside the Holy Mosque and did not do any of the rites of Hajj and ‘Umrah (lesser pilgrimage). She stayed two days at Mina then attained purity, performed Ghusl and performed all the rites of ‘Umrah while being pure. After that she had blood again while performing Tawaaf Al-Ifaadhah (the Hajj circumambulation) and she felt embarrassed to tell her guardian and so she completed all the rites, then told him after they arrived at their homeland. What is the ruling on this?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: "If the blood that she had during Tawaaf Al-Ifaadhah was menstrual blood and she is sure of this, then her Tawaaf is invalid and she must return to Makkah to perform it once more. She should assume the state of Ihraam, perform ‘Umrah by performing Tawaaf and Sa‘y then shorten her hair and perform Tawaaf Al-Ifaadhah. If she could not return to Makkah because she lives in a country that is far away from it, her Hajj would be valid as she cannot do more than what she did. If this was not menstrual blood and if it occurred because of crowdedness or awe or so forth, her Tawaaf would be valid according to the scholars who do not consider purity a condition for the validity of Tawaaf."
Allaah Knows best.
