Assalaamu alaykum. If a male or female doctor examines and treats patients of the opposite gender without necessity, is their income halal?
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
It seems to us – and Allah knows best – that the income of a male or female doctor who sometimes treats non-Mahram (marriageable) patients of the opposite gender without necessity is halaal (lawful); however, it is incumbent on the male doctor not to treat females and on the female doctor not to treat males without necessity. Please refer to fatwa 317464.
Allah knows best.
