Unfortunately, I fell into a very serious matter, which is that I affiliated to a Soofi group (spiritual Soofis) for a complete year. And I want to return to Allaah, to the true path, especially that I tasted the sweetness of worshipping Allaah. Am I cast off Allaah’s Mercy? In other words, I had wrong beliefs before, and now I abandoned these beliefs for Allaah's Sake. Am I considered a non-Muslim and out of the fold of Islam? Looking forward to your urgent reply! Please guide me and rescue me.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Nowadays, many Soofi groups commit many acts which take a person out of the fold of Islam, like seeking the help of other than Allaah and slaughtering for other than Allaah. Details on this issue are discussed in Fatwa 82017, so please refer to it. Therefore, what you have done, i.e. regretting and repenting to Allaah for having followed that group, and returning to the methodology of Ahlus-Sunnah, was the right thing to do. You have to know that Allaah promised to accept the repentance of those who repent and promised to forgive their sins howsoever great they may be. Allaah Says (what means): {Say, “O My Servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning] do not despair of the Mercy of Allaah. Indeed, Allaah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He Who is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”}[Quran 39:53].
Allaah Knows best.
